I received a subpoena. What does this mean?
If you search up your case on NC Courts, you may see “SW” for your next court hearing. This means you are “Subpoena Witness” and your attendance is required. Usually if you don’t appear and fail to comply with this, an order for arrest can be issued. If you fail to appear for a traffic ticket that you were subpoenaed for you, you can also get an Order for Arrest issued or have your license suspended and reported to the DMV as “Failure to Appear”.
If you received a subpoena in the mail or you were served with a subpoena by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, you still MUST appear for your hearing. We will contact you 1-2 days prior to your court date to inform you, so therefore, you can make reasonable accommodations to be present for court. If you were not subpoenaed, still, have your phone on standby and ready in case we have to contact you during court and we need something for you. Sometimes we just need consent to perform an action on your behalf or something else. Nevertheless, have your phone by you just in case.
